about
A sound environment created for Maro Bargilli’s sculptural installation exhibited as part of her solo exhibition 'Futuring the Past' at the House of Cyprus, Cultural Office of Cyprus Embassy in Athens, Greece, from November 2018 to January 2019. Named after the book ‘Famagusta Regina’ by the poet Kyriakos Charalambides (1997), the installation unfolds the scenic presence of the residents in front of the abandoned city of Famagusta through its sounds, suggesting the past and revoking the future. The layered sound textures structure rhythmic patterns that recall the sea of Famagusta and its predominant presence in the life of the city in the past - at the same time they represent the wind passing through the empty buildings of the city in its present state.
